Complete Matcha Set: A Handbuilding Pottery Class

Complete Matcha set to elevate your tea ritual, a one time handbuilding workshop only at Community Clay.

In this workshop, you will discover the tactile art of handbuilding as you craft a custom matcha tea set from raw clay. Your instructor, Caroline will guide you step by step through traditional pinching and coiling techniques while you shape a classic matcha bowl (chawan) featuring a wide, smooth basin designed specifically for whisking tea to a rich froth. Complementing your bowl, you'll sculpt a matching whisk holder, a small, contoured stand that helps preserve the shape and longevity of your bamboo whisk. Throughout the session, you'll explore surface texturing, lip shaping, and custom underglaze selection, ultimately creating a unique, functional set to elevate your daily tea ritual.

We’ll guide you through the process step by step, making this class perfect for learners of all levels. Your finished butter dish will be glazed and fired by our team and ready to bring home in a few weeks, just in time to make every stick of butter feel a little more fancy.
