Open Studio Rules

The rules and regulations all members must follow.

rules

Values

We expect all members to follow the studio values.

  • Respect - we promise to respect you and ask the same in return
  • Humility - we know we don't know everything; everyone has something to teach and learn
  • Inclusivity - we are committed to creating a community that is inclusive -- everyone is truly welcomed, valued, and respected

Not following these values is grounds for membership termination.

Guests/Visitors

Sorry, no visitors allowed due to insurance restrictions.

Shelf Storage

You will have a shelf 24" W x 24" L x 16" H to store pieces you're currently working on and your personal tools. If you generally make pieces taller than 16", you may request a top shelf.

Door Code

You will receive a code to the door. This is your personal code and may not be shared at the risk of losing your membership.

Large Equipment Use

Open studio equipment use is limited to wheels, slab roller, extruder, and hand tools. Pug mill, kilns, and any other large studio equipment may not be used by anyone but trained staff.

Studio Materials

No materials, equipment, glazes, underglazes or stains may be borrowed or taken out of the studio for personal use.

Production Work

We would call someone a "production potter" if they are making more than 25 items a month. If you think you will be producing this much, please let us know and we can let you know if we are able to support you while continuing to support our students and other members.

That said, you can always do your production work offsite and hire out one of our kilns for your firings.

We cannot guarantee firing by a certain date.

Cleaning

For the health and safety of everyone, limit dust-producing activities indoors. Sanding may only be done outside and trimming bone dry pieces is prohibited. After use of any work area or equipment, it is expected that the it be cleaned completely.

Injury

Some tools are sharp and can cause injury. In case of an injury, please alert staff immediately. A first aid kit is also provided in the main work room. Nitrile gloves are available in the store room closet.
